The automatic shotgun fires five pellets ahead of Bond in a cone shape, making it nearly worthless over long distances but extremely effective at short range. This weapon is especially useful against groups of enemies at short range in open areas, such as the Statue Park or the Second Surface. Each pellet does less damage than a normal weapon but a target hit by all five pellets will take more damage than if they had been hit by a Cougar Magnum or a Moonraker Laser. The automatic shotgun is better than or equal to the shotgun in every way. It surpasses the shotgun in terms of accuracy and damage, and has much lower recoil and less noise.

Trivia

  • The Automatic Shotgun was originally available in the Frigate, possibly removed for balance.
  • Many pre-release screen shots show the automatic shotgun, one of them being a shot of the watch with 6 bars.
  • The Automatic Shotgun appears to be based on the Franchi SPAS-12.
  • When the player reloads the Automatic Shotgun with 4 shells in reserve, the shells in the rack on the gun will be used. This is a completely cosmetic change; the number of shells in the rack has no effect on the function of the weapon.
