The grenade launcher fires grenade rounds ahead in an arc. Unlike hand grenades, grenade rounds detonate immediately on contact with the ground, however they can be bounced off walls without causing them to detonate. Skillful players take advantage of the grenade's ability to bounce, launching them around corners, through windows, and other situations to hit targets in other rooms.

- Duncan Botwood was skilled with the grenade launcher and designed several multiplayer maps to work well with it:
"My backgrounds tended towards having large rooms with high ceilings, because I was exceptionally good with the grenade launcher at that point."
