The PP7 Special Issue (also known as PP7 for short) is James Bond's signature weapon of choice. The player will start with this pistol in most missions. It is much more accurate compared to a DD44 Dostovei and has average damage. The PP7 can also help with conserving valuable ammunition from other weapons, due to the high accuracy of the gun and considerably easy aiming system of GoldenEye 007.

Like its silenced counterpart, it has a magazine size of seven rounds.

Trivia[]

  • During development, the PP7 was called the Walther PPK, after its real-world counterpart. The name was presumably changed for legal reasons.
  • The PP7 is very rare under the use of enemies in the game, as only the single Russian Commandant in Bunker 1 and Boris in Control carries this weapon. In the case of the latter, he drops it in regret before he could fire at Bond.
  • While the Walther PPK (the weapon the PP7 is based on) is famously known as 007's trademark weapon in the James Bond franchise, it was not initially planned by Ian Flaming. In his first novel Casino Royale, released in 1953, Bond originally had a diminutive .25 Beretta 418, which continued until From Russia with Love four years later. For his sixth novel Dr. No in 1958, he had advice from firearm expert Geoffrey Boothroyd to switch to a more powerful, yet reliable gun, as it was not a "lady's gun", and according to the previous book, Bond had trouble with the silencer being caught in his trousers. In the very first Bond film, Dr. No, in 1962, Bond at first had a Beretta M1934 as his service weapon but got quickly replaced with the PPK for similar reasons, where it is used ever since. Despite this, Bond in various movies used different pistols such as the FN Model 1910 or Walther P99. The Walther PPK itself is a smaller variant of the Walther PP, with a smaller magazine capacity, shorter grip. and barrel/frame. Ironically, in Dr. No, the PPK prop carried by Sean Connery during filming was actually a PP.
  • Another well-known fact about the Walther PPK alongside being heavily popularized by James Bond, is the infamous real life dictator Adolf Hitler committed suicide with a self-inflicted gunshot wound by his own said weapon in 1945.
  • With the PP7 having a 7 round magazine, Bond's weapon in GoldenEye 007 is the .380 caliber PPK/S model. Its name could be a reference to this. Those models of the PPK are only sold in North America rather than France or Germany due to import rules in the United States. The common PPK seen in the novels and films only held 6 rounds.
  • The PP7 in-game uses 9mm bullets and has average stopping power, and in the James Bond novels/films the Walther PPK is shown as an effective service weapon for the MI6 spy agent. However, this is complete fiction; In real life, despite its widespread usage by European law enforcement and civilians in the 1930s and World War II, the iconic PPK is not a very powerful firearm in modern combat and is originally designed as a close quarters self-defense weapon meant for concealed carry. The pistol itself is a sub-compact design from 1931, and while it is small and reliable, accurate, and easy to use with little recoil, it is relatively heavy for its size as many were made in steel, and only comes in .22 LR, .32, and .380 ACP calibers, which are all inferior to the 9mm in stopping power, and carry between 6-10 rounds, making the Walther PPK unsuitable for military use seen in James Bond media. The gun is mostly used as a collector's item by weapon enthusiasts rather than personal or home defense, as more powerful handgun options exist in current civilian markets.
  • The PP7 is featured in Perfect Dark as the PP9i.
  • The PP7 has a few variants. They are: Silenced PP7, Silver PP7 and Gold PP7.
